About me
I am dedicated to reaching children who might otherwise be missed in a larger group setting. I feel most fulfilled when I am able to convince them that they are valuable and capable of great things. This is something I have been passionate about throughout my upbringing and my time as a secondary school science teacher.
It is for these reasons that I completed a Masters in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Challenging Able Scientists in a Mixed Ability Classroom. A highlight of which was the one-to-one and small group work activities that enabled me to tune into the needs of individual learners without the inevitable distractions of the wider classroom setting. I loved working with the small group of student volunteers and sharing my findings with their families and colleagues too.
Still convinced of education’s power to transform lives, I was later captivated by Ruth Miskin’s phonics series whilst home-schooling my daughter during lock down and ultimately set out to teach learners with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. I qualified as a Specialist Teacher through Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity – the leading provider of courses in teaching learners with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.
I work closely with Bloom Education, an Ofsted approved, Winchester-based educational service working with 5–16 year olds and Think Dyslexia who provide specialist teaching and training throughout the South of England.
I am a member of Patoss and currently working in the Hampshire area and happy to offer online support.
Please contact me if you wish to discuss your particular needs.
